This helmet was popular with foot soldiers, archers, city guards and militia troops from the 12th to the 15th centuries because it offered a great balance of protection, visibility and comfort. \n \nThe wide circular brim is what sets it apart. It is meant to deflect sword blows, spears and falling projectiles while offering better protection against arrows during battles and sieges.
